So for many years I have been looking to purchase a Gibson Byrdland. And like most money has been on and off, more off than on..I am sure you know what I mean. Well anyway I got the chance to buy one and I did!I was worried about the short scale but once it was in my hands it felt great. I found it very comfortable almost like I had been playing that scale for a long time.
But I had to stand back and take a look at it. I had to take in the solid spruce top, the binding, the simple tone and volume controls, the back of the 5 piece neck, of course the headstock is a thing of beauty! The tuners were a little sticky, I guess for a guitar that is 36 years old this thing is in amazing condition. The colors are still vibrant and while I did see a little bit of checking, it is still an awesome site to see.
I adjusted the string height as I felt it was too low for me. Unplugged this guitar also rings nice and loud. The frets have plenty of life, as it seems whomever had it did not play it that much. I plugged it into my Rivera Jazz Suprema and started to play. Playing different styles this guitar did it all. From jazz to rock…of course if you have listen to Ted Nudgent you will know what it will do in rock. I can tell you that this Byrdland will be with me for as long as I can play it!
Here are a couple of pictures…..
If you get the chance to own one. DO IT!!!!! They are great guitars and sound amazing!!!
God Bless
