When I was a kid and in school we were instructed to view the newscast or read the local paper and do an essay based on what we saw or read, what we were hearing or reading were true reporters! True reporters gave you the facts, they showed you the proof of the story. And they left you thinking about the story. They stories that were reported were genuine and were given to you with respect, and professionalism. Let’s fast forward to today! Here in Miami we have of course the local television stations which all of them strive to grab ratings! Thats all they care about ratings, of course that is what makes them money!
Reporters working at these stations are more like I will give you my opinion on this story as I report it. Very few of the reporters even look like they take the story seriously. After someone reports something the anchors just chime in and offer their take on the story. Are they trying to make us feel like them, wonder in awe of what we have heard? By the way I was surprised that there was not that much coverage of hurricane Sandy as it made its way up and close to us. I knew we would not be hit by Sandy since the local stations were not broadcasting 24 hours a day about the storm.
The reporters today have become one sided. They slant the story the way they feel it should be heard and try to get their agenda, whatever it maybe across while reporting the stories. It is sad to see this and it is the reason I do not watch many of the stations. Reporters used to have the gift of being able to report, now they are mindless people who want to make a living in an easy manner. The stations encourage this attitude as all they care about is making money.
People who I have spoken with rarely watch these stations either. And I hear the same thing. “You can believe everything from that station” Some have said it’s entertainment! No it is not! It is the news! And should be reported as such. Not as entertainment! The amount of mindless people watching and being fed a steady diet of nonsense is amazing. Reporters today are nowhere nears the caliber that yesterday reporters were! They will never be equal. All they can hope for is to be picked up by a station when they are looking for work and maybe get a bump in pay. Reporters today sadly have no talent!
